This entry is also avaliable in: Spanish

The Association for Free Press (APLP) believes that the Cuban State fulfilled its duty by releasing journalist José Antonio Torres, an ex-correspondent in Santiago de Cuba for Granma, the official newspaper of the Cuban Communist Party. Torres has served six years of a 14-year prison sentence.

Nonetheless, we reiterate our conviction that no journalist should be imprisoned, persecuted, harassed or attacked in any way for political motives.

The journalist, who was released on Tuesday, June 27, had been in jail since February 2011, convicted of the crime of espionage He was prosecuted of spying in favor of the United States of America.
